FAQs

The Wedding Website of Elli Sherrer and Charlie Landsman
Question

What’s Kauai like?

Answer

Kauai is the Garden Island, known for its lush mountains, waterfalls, and golden beaches. Life runs on island time, so things move slower and many restaurants and shops close early. The west side, where Waimea is located, is the sunniest and driest part of the island.

Question

When should I book my accommodations?

Answer

As soon as possible. Waimea Plantation Cottages has a limited number of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom cottages, and reservations are first come, first served.

Question

When should I arrive on Kauai?

Answer

The latest we recommend is Wednesday afternoon. Our first official event will be a welcome toast that evening.

Question

Can I extend my trip?

Answer

Definitely! The wedding events run August 26–30, but if you stay longer we recommend spending time on the North Shore (Hanalei, Princeville, Kilauea) to experience a different side of Kauai.

Question

Do I need to rent a car?

Answer

We recommend renting a car if you want to explore the island beyond the wedding events. Rideshares like Uber and Lyft are available during the day but not always reliable in the early morning or late evening. Public transportation exists but is limited and not convenient for visitors.

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

Think tropical, casual, and comfortable. Bring swimsuits, sandals, sunglasses, and reef-safe sunscreen for the beach. Light, breathable clothing works well for daytime, and a sweater or light jacket is useful in the evenings. If you plan to hike, bring sturdy shoes or hiking sandals. A rain jacket, bug spray, and a hat are also smart to have.

Question

Is there a dress code for the wedding?

Answer

Yes, the dress code for our ceremony is island formal. Check out our What To Wear section for inspiration.

Question

Will you be providing food and drinks?

Answer

Yes! We'll have drinks at the welcome toast on Wednesday, a rehearsal dinner on Friday, the reception dinner on Saturday, and a light breakfast on Sunday morning. Outside of those events, we recommend stocking up your cottage kitchen for some easy meals. There are also plenty of great restaurants on the island worth checking out. Let us know about any dietary restrictions and we'll make sure you're taken care of!

Question

Can I bring my kids?

Answer

Yes, kids are welcome at both the cottages and all wedding events.

Question

Can I bring my dog?

Answer

No, pets are not allowed at Waimea Plantation Cottages. We kindly ask that you leave your furry friends at home.
