Following his undergraduate years at Old Dominion University, Tarik found himself in Memphis to work for his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha. Tarik worked hard and traveled around North America until Covid disrupted all the fun. Once he was forced to stay put in Memphis, Tarik began studying for the law school admission test and applying to law schools, not only in Memphis but also in the Chicagoland and DMV areas. Following Elizabeth's time at Loras College, she found herself living in downtown Chicago and also traveling around to meet with clients for her career in social media marketing, that is, until Covid disrupted all the fun for her as well. Once she was forced to stay put in Chicago, Elizabeth began studying for the law school admission test and applying to law schools, for some reason in Memphis, but also in the Chicagoland and DMV areas. So, how does a girl from the midwest meet a guy from the east coast? In the south, of course! Specifically, Memphis, Tennessee at the University of Memphis School of Law. Looking back, the two are convinced, had they not met in Memphis, their paths would have crossed at law school in Chicagoland or DMV areas. Tarik and Elizabeth were placed in the same section and took all the same classes in their first year. Throughout their first year the two only had one very brief interaction in a crowded and noisy bar, during which Tarik confidently and incorrectly asked, "you're from Wisconsin, right?" The two didn't really meet each other likely because they are near opposites. Tarik was the talkative, engaged student sitting in the front of the class, while Elizabeth was the quiet, nervous student sitting in the back. Tarik stayed at school late, while Elizabeth arrived early. It wasn't until the end of their first year when the law school hosted its annual end of year event, "Barrister's Ball" commonly referred to as law school prom, which was hosted at the famous Peabody Hotel, where the two officially "met." At this law school prom, Tarik caught Elizabeth's eye, in a black suit with a blue bow tie. At this point, Elizabeth had ONLY seen Tarik in a suit. . . because while she wore sweatshirts and leggings to class, Tarik was . . .that guy who wore a suit to class everyday. However, for some reason, on that day, this suit and this blue bow tie caught Elizabeth's eye. Law school prom consisted of dancing, fun, and . . . yes, a few drinks; so, of course pictures had to be taken. Tarik was taking pictures with fellow classmates and asked Elizabeth for assistance as a photographer. Tarik quickly followed up by asking Elizabeth to take a picture with him. After a few pictures were snapped (on Elizabeth's phone), Tarik smoothly asked "so, how are you gonna get those pictures to me?" At that moment, Tarik received Elizabeth's number. Now fast forward three years, on the rooftop of that very same hotel . . .Tarik got down on one knee and asked Elizabeth one more question and she said YES!
