Before coming into each other’s lives, Tanner and Elizabeth made the move to New York City to pursue their careers immediately after graduating from the greatest institution in America, The University of Kansas. Elizabeth after graduating in the winter of 2016 and Tanner after earning his Master of Architecture in May 2018. Neither knew what the future would hold or who they would meet. Introduced to each other via a group of college friends shortly after Tanner moved to the city, the two became acquainted through a series of east coast road trips and social gatherings. They distinctly remember falling back from the group while on a trip in Portland, Maine, talking about their families, their time at KU, and getting to know each other a little more. It’s safe to say that interests had piqued. Despite having been in the same class at KU and sharing many of the same interests, Tanner and Elizabeth somehow never crossed paths. They shared a number of mutual friends and frequented many of the same places on campus including Memorial Stadium, the Ellsworth dorms, Allen Fieldhouse, and on occasion, the Jayhawk Cafe. When they were back in the city, Tanner formally asked Elizabeth to “drinks or something” at Pier A Harbor House in lower Manhattan (their eventual proposal spot four years later!). After this first date, it didn’t take long for Tanner and Elizabeth to become the bright spot of each other’s days. Tanner amplifies Elizabeth’s love of life and Elizabeth can appreciate Tanner’s level-headedness and thorough approach to…everything. His wittiness and goofiness keeps her laughing constantly. They have a reliable and fiercely loyal love between them. Together they tackle the chaos of New York City living and continuously check off their list of obscure New York To-Do’s (a random island off The Bronx anyone?). Someone who shares your values AND love of adventure? Jackpot! They’ve summited the highest point in three states, tackled multiple mountain half marathons, biked the perimeter of Manhattan, lived in a combined seven New York neighborhoods, and have eaten their way through the boroughs. They are confident there will be no shortage of adventure in their lives. It’s now been more than five years of keeping each other grounded, challenged, laughing, and feeling so very blessed to know they have undoubtedly found the ultimate life companion in one another. Tanner and Elizabeth look forward to their wedding day and celebrating with all of their favorite people in one place!
