We met during medical school at UVA in 2020. It was the height of COVID still when we started, so there were not many in person events. Simon started a run club to try to get people together, and Elizabeth met him there. We quickly started talking and both continued to attend the run club even though neither of us really loved running. The run “club” slowly dwindled down to just Simon and Elizabeth. We then went on our first “date”, when we ate Raising Cane’s on the lawn because Simon had never tried it, and it is one of Elizabeth’s favorite fast foods. We then started dating and spent the rest of medical school with each other, attending UVA sporting events, trying new restaurants, wineries, and breweries in Charlottesville, and studying/working a lot. On match day, we unfortunately found out that we’d be separated for 5 years, Simon doing urology residency at NYU and Elizabeth doing orthopedic surgery residency at UVA. Despite the distance, we have still made time to visit each other and prioritize our relationship during an extremely busy time for both of us. In November 2025, Simon proposed back where we had our first date, on one of the gardens by the lawn.
