Travel

After speaking with several hotels we have decided to not do room blocks for the weekend. Due to the holiday weekend, hotels are anticipating being able to charge more and be at capacity, and the prices quoted to us were actually significantly more expensive than just basic travel site searches now. Gotta love NYC, right? If you anticipate wanting a room, we recommend booking within the next few weeks. Below are some neighborhoods we recommend, along with the best option near the venue if you just want to come in for the day and stay one night. You'll find the best deals by searching discount sites or google travel options. There are a number of out of town guests who are looking at getting houses in Brooklyn on Air BnB and splitting the cost. If would like to be put in contact with one of those groups, or if you have ANY questions about deciding where you'd like to stay, please reach out to Elizabeth at eliben.nyc@gmail.com.

Travel Note

Notes on neighborhoods!

Neighborhoods: Manhattan - Stay here if you want to be in the thick of it and closer to many of the more classic sites. Depending on where you're staying this would be a $30-40 cab ride to the venue. We live in Hell's Kitchen/Hudson Yards. * Anywhere in Manhattan SOUTH of Central Park * Midtown (East or West) Brooklyn - The venue is in Bushwick, we listed the best option in that neighborhood, but there are a lot of other places to consider staying that might be a little farther from Forrest Point, but not all the way in Manhattan. * Cobble Hill/Downtown BK/BK Heights - Any of these hoods would give you a lot to do and see and easy enough access into the city if wanted. Great for families and those without kids alike. These options would be closer to $20 for cab fare. * Williamsbug/Gowanus - Closer to venue - about a $10-15 cab. * Park Slope - Quieter and family oriented hood with decent access tot he city. Near Prospect Park. Cabs in the $15-20 range.

Subway info

For those of you unfamiliar with the NYC subway system and brave enough to give it a shot, we recommend the MYMTA app. This offers maps, schedules and door to door directions. It is also the most up-to-date source for schedule changes and detours. Anyone who is here more than 3-4 days and is looking to take more than one round trip per day, should probably consider the one week unlimited metro card. You can also just load funds on your card and pay per use at $2.50/ride (not round-trip). You can purchase a metrocard at kiosks located in most subway stations. Please reach out to either of us if you have any questions or concerns about getting around once you're in the city. It can be intimidating!
