We officially met when Phil helped me move into my apartment the day that I moved to Minnesota from Illinois to start a new teaching job. But, most people don't know this, Phil sent me a message on Facebook not long after it was announced that I had accepted the job. It wouldn't be until September that we really got into each other's orbit though. Good friends took notice and did some polite nudging. ;)
On a Friday in the parking lot after school, Phil finally asked me if I wanted to go to lunch with him after church on Sunday. Of course I said, "Yes." We went to OAK Eatery and proceeded to have a have a two hour lunch. It was later in October when I called him up and asked him to go to the corn maze with me. After that we found ourselves hanging out all of the time.
For Easter Break Phil offered to drive down to Louisiana with me to see my parents (I wasn't able to see them for Christmas because of COVID). Unknown to me, while we were down there Phil talked to my dad and expressed his intent to marry me. Fast forward to the end of the month and after a Friday night dinner at OAK Eatery (my choice), we were hanging out at my apartment watching Gold Rush and we started talking future things. Well, Phil then gets up (I figured he was going to the bathroom) and then tells me to stand up. So, I stand up and walk over to him, and he then gets down on his knee and pulls out a ring box. He asks me to marry him all calm and cool, while I went stupid and started rambling. I did say "Yes!" and here we are!
August 6 is working out to be the perfect date for our wedding. So, while it might seem quick, it's right for us. Since I'm a teacher finding time during the school year is tough; this works out perfectly before going back to school. Also, Phil and I decided that we didn't want to wait, we've each waited long enough to get to this point. ;) We'll be married at St. John's Lutheran Church where we both attend church.
