Nick and Elizabeth met when they joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps after graduating from Marquette University and Holy Cross in 2013. Nick and Elizabeth were both placed in Detroit at different non-profits where they would spend a year living in community and practicing simple living. Nick was part of the Southwest Detroit community house called Rosa Parks and Elizabeth was part of the 7 mile Northwest community called Solanus Casey. After 11 months of friendship and many $2 beers at Tom's Tavern, Nick revealed to Elizabeth that he was interested in more than friendship. He thought, with only 5 weeks left in the program, what did he have to lose? To his relief, Elizabeth reciprocated the feelings and their summer fling commenced. When JVC came to an end in August of 2014, Nick and Elizabeth returned to their home cities (Chicago and Boston) to figure out their next steps. In early September, Nick decided to visit Elizabeth in Boston while they were both unemployed. After all, he had never been to Boston and they hadn't seen each other in over a month! The night Nick arrived in Boston, he received a call from a networking connection he had made in Detroit for a financial consulting firm with offices in Detroit and Chicago. Nick was told that they unfortunately did not have any openings in those offices, but are based in Boston and if he could get there for a Monday interview, his connection could arrange the meeting. Nick interviewed on a Monday, received the job offer on a Tuesday, and moved to Boston two weeks later. Fast forward to October of 2018, Elizabeth and Nick returned to Detroit for a reunion with their JVC group and to run a half marathon. Little did she know, Nick had been planning a surprise proposal and engagement party with our whole group and our families for the night before the half marathon. They can't wait to celebrate their exciting next step on their wedding day!
