How We Met

Written by Elizabeth Kyle and Elizabeth matched on Bumble. After a Bumble match, the app only allows the girl profile a 24-hour window to initiate a conversation. Elizabeth got busy and quickly forgot to send Kyle a message. Instead of allowing the window to expire, Kyle used one of his "extensions" to give Elizabeth another 24 hours to get it together. Thankfully, Elizabeth saw that Kyle used an extension and quickly messaged him. Pleasantries were exchanged and then as the conversation developed into "So how did you end up in D.C.?" Kyle asked if he could tell her about it over dinner. The two met at Sixth Engine (now Present Company). Somewhere along the night, Elizabeth told Kyle that her favorite bar in D.C. was Stoney's on L (and not the one on P). Kyle got the check and called an Uber. Then, the night ended magically with Stoney's Amber Ales, sweet potato fries, and a perfect first kiss.

The Proposal

Written by Kyle While discussing proposal ideas with Elizabeth's best friend, Meg, she mentioned that Elizabeth wanted to always be able to look at a location and say "that's where we got engaged." It clicked and Kyle took it from there. On a perfect summer Saturday in D.C., Kyle scheduled a private U.S. Capitol tour followed by Elizabeth's favorite activity...brunch. Members of the brunch party "cancelled", so the tour would just be the two of them. Led by a very close family friend, the tour approached the private West Terrace, where Presidential Inaugurations have taken place since 1981. As they looked out onto the the National Mall, Kyle awkwardly dropped to one knee, didn't take his sunglasses off and asked the most important question of his life. The entire time, Kyle's sister and professional photographer, Karly, hid and took photos of the perfect moment. The tour continued throughout the empty Capitol building. Karly took the most amazing photos while the family friend continued the private and intimate tour. Little did Elizabeth know, our friends and family had been hiding out in D.C. and Northern Virginia for a few days. They were waiting for Kyle and Elizabeth at one of her favorite brunch spots in D.C. Together they ate, drank and celebrated together the rest of the weekend!
