Elizabeth and Joakim met in November of 2018, when Joakim was transferred to work in the same location as Elizabeth at Epcot. It wasn’t long working together before the two went on a date (which neither remembers). They dated for a few months, including lots of Disney park dates, movie nights, looking at Christmas lights, and a coast-to-coast sunrise/sunset day. Fast forward a few months, and the two went their separate ways, while still continuing to work in the same area. In June of 2019, Elizabeth left her job at Disney to return to teaching, eventually moving back to Tampa. Joakim moved back home to Norway. The two kept in touch as friends over the years. In November of 2023, there was a shift in their conversations. They began talking on FaceTime more often, sometimes for hours, and texting every day. This went on for almost a year. Elizabeth then invited Joakim to join her for her best friend Chris’s (bridesman) wedding in November of 2024. Joakim flew in for the weekend from Norway and the two of them knew from the moment Elizabeth picked him up at the airport that they were locked in. After that weekend, they officially launched their long distance relationship, planning as many visits as possible, and attempting to find an end to the distance. In June of 2025, Elizabeth flew to Norway as the start of her month-long European trip. Joakim picked her up from the airport and took her up to the fortress in his hometown, Halden. This is where he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Elizabeth immediately said yes (throwing her phone in the process) and spent the rest of her trip geeking out over being fiancés. In August of 2025, Joakim moved to Tampa, putting an end to the long distance, and beginning the next stage of their life together.
