Gurdwara/ Temple
This is a Sikh/Punjabi wedding blessing called Sukhmani Sahib Paath taking place in the largest Gurdwara outside of India. There will be prayers and blessings followed by Langar. Langar is always available in a Gurdwara, where a complimentary, vegetarian home cooked meal is served to share with guests after the ceremony. As a mark of respect, ladies are to have their hair covered with a scarf or dupatta and men are typically provided a ramal or head covering. Shoes are to be removed in the Gurdwara (socks are allowed).
1:30 pm
This will be a traditional turmeric paste ceremony called the Maiyan. The paste is smeared by the guests on the arms and legs of the bride and groom.
6:30 pm
This event will include traditional Bridal henna and all ladies are welcome to participate. Typically guests will receive a small henna (mehndi) design, while bridal mehndi is very intricate and takes quite a bit of time to apply.
7:00 pm
The maiyan ceremony: here you can expect to see family and friends rubbing turmeric paste on the bride and groom to cleanse the skin and make them glow! Just after this ceremony there will be the pre-party ( jaggo)
