How We Met

September 19, 2018

We met through INSPIRE Catholic Young Adults group out of Ridgewood NJ. It was clear that God had been calling us to get more involved in this group as there were many events that we had been meaning to go where we would have met the other. We finally met at a Catholic forum discussing current events in the catholic church. From then we started talking online sparked by a post from a friend of Ian's regarding Mel Brooks. From then it ran smoothly till the present day when we are preparing our for our wedding and writing our how we met story. We thank all those who helped us meet and thank God for bringing us together as it is through him that all things are possible.

Proposal Story

November 1, 2020

Anybody who knows Elizabeth at all knows her love of lighthouses, to the point where in one of our first discussions on marriage, I asked if she wanted me to ask at a lighthouse. She said that would be nice, but to ask at a place that's a mixture of both of us, which I respected. The Outer Banks has always been my family's go to vacation spot dating back to my grandparents, and this also has the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the tallest in the United States. So when we decided to travel there in Summer of 2020 for a vacation, I had an idea come to mind. Due to Covid, we delayed our vacation to November 2020 and arrived there Halloween night. I originally planned to wait until November 4th to propose, because that was our anniversary, but then I realized very quickly that I couldn't wait that long, but then it became a matter of how would we go to the lighthouse without making it obvious what was about to happen. The afternoon of November 1st, there was a pretty serious rainstorm on Hatteras Island where we were staying, and the whole island lost power for a few hours. After the rain stopped, we were trying to figure out what to do to occupy time, because it was beginning to get dark and there was still no power anywhere yet. We figured that the lighthouse of all the places must have power, so we went over there. It turns out......it didn't. While we were standing there, and I had a moment of panic internally, the power came back and the light turned on. We walked closer to the lighthouse, and, after planning what I would say for months, and having it delayed a few months due to world circumstances, I finally got to ask Elizabeth to marry me. And, thankfully, she said yes!
