Darby and Liz met at a mutual friend's birthday party. Liz was supposed to go on a date that night but it fell through. Instead, all dressed up and ready to go out, she decided to attend the party. When they ended up sitting on the same couch, Darby and Liz started talking. Liz's first question was, "What's your favorite animal?" Very smooth. To her surprise and utmost joy, Darby told her that it might be strange, but he actually really liked cats. The rest is history.

Darby proposed to Liz during a winter getaway on Marco Island. They were walking along the beach to dinner. Just as the sun was setting, Darby dropped to one knee. While he was busy proposing, and Liz was too emotional to function, the hero of the story swept in from left, unnoticed. Paul, a beach goer and total stranger, had filmed the entire proposal. In the final seconds of the video he can be heard asking Liz, "so did you say yes??" He explained that, "when you see a guy get down on one knee you just start filming." Well, Paul, we are really glad you did!
