Although they had many mutual friends from Cal Poly while living in San Luis Obispo, their paths had never crossed until Elizabeth was invited by some friends on an impromptu camping trip in Yosemite that Colin was planning. Colin acted as tour guide; Elizabeth crushed hard. *Fast forward a few months* They each had crushes on each other and met up for weekly dates for burgers and beers. Although Elizabeth continued to tell her mom, “Oh no it’s not serious, we’re just friends,” it seemed that everyone around them knew that was not quite true. After dating happily in San Luis Obispo for a year, Elizabeth moved back to Walnut Creek to teach, and Colin started his firefighting path on the Central Coast. Long distance was incredibly tough, but after 4 years of weekend visits, camping trips, music festivals, and beach dates, Elizabeth was offered a teaching position back on the Central Coast. Once they were back in the same zip code, Colin kept his first and biggest secret from Elizabeth…
Colin secretly planned the most thoughtful and dreamy proposal for Elizabeth in Monterey. As planned, Elizabeth drove down to meet up with Colin’s family to celebrate his 30th birthday. As soon as she arrived, Colin took her on the 17 Mile Drive along the coast, where they enjoyed the views and got out and walked around on different beaches. But Colin didn’t quite last 17 miles--- it seemed like barely 17 minutes--- before he proposed. Of course, Elizabeth said "yes!" and they took in the moment on the beach together. They then headed back into town to see Colin’s family. Much to Elizabeth’s surprise, her parents, siblings (some on facetime), and niece and nephew were also all there waiting to celebrate with dinner, decorations, and champagne! It was the most special day… so far! We can’t wait to celebrate our marriage with all of you and create even more meaningful memories together!
