One of downtowns hot spots is Union Station. Union Station is a 19th Century railroad terminal with shops, a book store, ice cream, restaurants and a luxury hotel. Go to Snooze and place your name on the wait list. Since there is usually an hour wait, you’ll have time to take in some of the shops, get coffee at Pigtrain Coffee Company or take a self-guided tour of Union Station. The free mall ride starts close to Union Station (runs every 4 to 15 minutes) and will take you up and down 16th Street Mall. A mix of restaurants, a bar, coffee shop, ice cream shop, flower shop and community. They have different options for food for whatever your mood. The neighborhood is full of little breweries, murals, cool street art and live music. It’s in a very up and coming area of Denver referred to by the locals as “RiNo” which stands for River North.
Evergreen Lake, a popular recreation area, was created by damming Bear Creek in 1927. It sits above downtown Evergreen, which includes a mix of historic buildings and local businesses, including the well-known entertainment venue and restaurant, The Little Bear. Willow Creek Restaurant is a great place to grab lunch with an outdoor patio with a view of Evergreen lake. The Little Bear is also a hallmark of Evergreen and can provide pub fare. If you’re up for a little wine tasting, Creekside Cellars is the place for you. This is Denver’s famous outdoor music venue! It's also known to have once hosted The Carey Pearsall Band. Carey's band is even in the Hall of Fame Museum. Sometimes they have movies, concerts, or yoga on the rocks. There is lots of hiking around the amphitheater – not super difficult for hiking and very beautiful.
20 min west of Denver This is a pretty easy hike, very close to Denver, which provides great views of the city and the mountains. It’s also right next to Red Rocks (on the east side). There are two sides to this mountain that you can hike – we prefer the west side because there are more trail options. These are our favorites: Parmalee Gulch – Good workout, nice views, loop, a little longer than some of the other trails. Castle Trail – best views, you have to go “all the way up” for them. It’s fairly short and not as strenuous, (probably just over an hour round trip). Free parking – bathrooms at the trail head.
Belleview Station has given Denver’s southern suburbs its very own dining and shopping hub worthy of their neighbors to the north. Just call it a mini-Cherry Creek in south Denver, located at Belleview Avenue and I-25, with super-easy access to light rail. This new walkable district includes trendy dining spots, such as Corvus Coffee Roasters (try the delicious oat-milk latte), Highland Tap & Burger, Sushi-Rama and Los Chingones and the Urban Egg. You can also catch the light rail here (or by your hotel) and head north towards downtown Denver to Union Station.
