Our Story

From childhood crush to partners forever

We met alllll the way back in 2002 as babies when both of our families were stationed in California. Throughout the years our families grew closer which continued to bring us together. When we were just 6 years old, our parents overheard Lizzy telling her best friend that Blaine was "soooo cute" and ever since then, our parents have placed bets that we were going to get married. Obviously, we couldn't date back when we were 6 years old because boys had cooties. Many years later, Lizzy decided to go to Virginia Tech where Blaine was conveniently going to school already. On the 4th of July before starting the school year at VT, Blaine realized that he had a crush on Lizzy...finally! He sent a bold text a few days later confessing his love which brought Lizzy's 6-year-old crush on him back to the surface. The timing was just right and we have fallen more and more in love with each other every day since then!

The Proposal

May 2nd, 2020

We both knew that we were going to get married long before Blaine proposed. Lizzy was convinced he was going to wait until the 4th of July to propose because that date has special meaning to us as the day he fell in love with Lizzy. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic occurred and pushed his Marine Corps training back, meaning he would not be home for the 4th of July. He also could not purchase a ring because all of the jewelers were closed for the time being. To Lizzy's surprise, Blaine found a jeweler who was willing to help him make this proposal happen before he left for training. He planned an entire scavenger hunt around our town and convinced Lizzy it was something the county put together for everyone to do. He said he had a "meeting" halfway through the scavenger hunt so Lizzy continued on the hunt with his family while he went back to Lizzy's house to get ready for the proposal. The last clue on the hunt led Lizzy to her house where he was waiting with friends and family there to witness it. She went around to the backyard and there he was waiting in the middle of the island in Lizzy's backyard pond. She took the canoe out to him, he got down on one knee, and she said YES! Our brothers lit fireworks right after she said yes and all of our family and friends cheered. It was the best day ever!
