How Elizabeth tells the story: I was traveling Europe looking for inspiration while working on my first book when I happened to meet the love of my life in a little English pub in Leicester. Of course, I didn't know it then. As anyone who knows me can attest, for as much as I am a hopeless romantic, I'm also incredibly stubborn. Wes and I were both remarkably awkward when we met, and though he seemed sweet I wasn't exactly holding my breath for a second date. But, he knew better than I did, and thanks to his persistence I am marrying the most incredible man I've ever met. How Wes tells the story: I've never been super active in seeking out relationships but one day I got a message from a really cute girl and I had the crazy idea of asking to meet. When she said yes I thought to myself, "Right then Wes show what you've got". So I put on my nicest shirt, the cleanest jeans and the best shoes I had and headed out. I got to the pub and immediately felt nervous and confused, like what was I doing? She put her hand up to signal me over to the table, and, as soon as I saw her, there was something in my brain just told me, "This is it. She's the one."
After talking about our future for several months we had both reached a place of mutually assured engagement, but of course he still had to pop the question. Wes had planned on proposing on our trip to my ancestral lands in Scotland, but the ring hadn't arrived yet! In fact, as luck would have it, the day we got back the ring had just arrived. Wes couldn't wait another second and made plans to take me to an adorable New York style pizza place called Frankie and Benny's. He planned to propose over dinner but was thwarted again by a young child's birthday party! Not wanting to steal the kid's thunder, Wes waited till we were outside to ask me the question I'd been dreaming of, and of course I said yes.
