In the blazing sun of a record-hot Corvallis summer, Elissa decided to holler down a near empty hallway to ask Cameron if he was from Hawaii. After some confusion it was revealed that Cam was not from Hawaii. He simply had purchased too many tee shirts during his last several vacations. And yet! The die was cast! Smitten by such an awkward question, the two would spend the remaining 9 weeks of class hanging out, doing homework together, sharing in mutual distain for having chosen to do such a hard class over such a short period of time.
After many years of mortal sin and several bouts of prodding from certain people (you know who you are), Cam decided to propose. Where better than the magical island of Kauai? The trip was already scheduled, the ring already thrust upon the couple, it was only a matter of opportunity. Days passed, with several imperfect opportunities presenting themselves. There was the seaside hike, riddled with ground wasps, where Elissa almost passed out. There was Hamura's Saimin, which was very good but not romantic. There was even a lunar eclipse! But the merry band of tag-alongs spoiled it! Finally, on the last night of their stay, Cam and Elissa went for a night time walk under a full moon. Settling into a secluded section of shore, Cam popped the question, to which Elissa said "uh.... what?". After some confusion (you might be sensing a theme here) Elissa had the ring on her finger and the two were engaged. Elissa was so flabbergasted by the whole affair that she completely ignored the gull sleeping on the walkway, and proceeded to trip over the bird. The Legend of the Punted Seagull persists to this day.
