This musuem is what first brought Elise and Shani to the town of Beacon, and it also ended up being their last trip out of NYC before the pandemic shut down. On more than 30 acres of land near the banks of the Hudson River, Dia: Beacon houses the Dia Art Foundation’s permanent collection from the 1960s to the present, and curates regular special exhibitions and new commissions. Housed in a former Nabisco box-printing factory, the industrial building features sprawling open spaces and abundant natural light, making the unique brick, steel, concrete, and glass structure a perfect complement to the museum’s exhibitions.
Storm King is a beautiful open-air sculpture museum with over 100 pieces. The 500-acre park marries two of Hudson Valley’s chief offerings: nature and art. Grab a coffee, hot chocolate, or spiced hot apple cider, and stroll through fields of native wildflowers, woodlands, and over rolling hills.
Want to get in a light workout and a great hike? The leaves are perfect this time of year! Start with a small scramble up the rock, followed by a fun walk through the woods. Finally, end the route in the town of Cold Spring for some ice cream, burgers, or escargot! Ask Shani or Elise for the specifics on how to best approach this.
Yeah, you likely won't get a photo of your food before eating it. Even though you're in New York, you'll want to have breakfast at this southern soul food spot. Get a breakfast sandwich on a biscuit, get the grits, and then get whatever else you want. This is one of Elise and Shani's most favorite diners in the world. Say hello to Miss Barabara for us!
This is not a casual or easy hike. This is a workout. Hike up to the overlook, bring water. You'll be proud of yourself when it's all done. Once you get up there you'll have a great view of the Hudson River and the town of Beacon. This one burns, remember that.
