It's that classic tale we have all heard many times before, albeit with a slightly different bump along the road. Picture a fun party held in a beautiful SF backyard, with views of the bay, on a pleasant Saturday in mid-September. A boy turns around and sees a pretty girl. They smile, they talk and now comes the bump that almost changed our destinies. The boy, mistakenly, assumes that this smart, funny and pretty girl is with another boy standing near them. After all, he reasons, for a girl like her the universe would have lined up suitors aplenty. It escapes him that the universe has placed him in the front of that line. And so, in the interest of keeping his hopes un-dashed, the boy excuses himself and returns to his friend. The boy's friend hears the story and is in complete disbelief. They look in her direction again and notice that the so-called suitor is, in fact, not one. The gentle, dim bulb of realization, that had turned on a few minutes ago, begins to now burn with the intensity of a million suns and the boy rushes over to pick up the thread of conversation before the universe decides to give his spot to someone else. Our eyes met once again, we smiled, we talked and, ever since then, we have always marveled at the serendipitous nature of our meeting.
