Eight years ago, Elise and Brandon each decided to try their hands at online dating on a little website called OkCupid. They were a 98% match and struck up a two-week long conversation on the site before deciding to go on their first date. Brandon asked what Elise wanted to do, and she thought brunch at 10:30am sounded like a great idea. He on the other hand, was sweating over the thought of getting up earlier than noon since he was a bartender who rarely made it home earlier than 4am. He said yes anyway. Being the punctual one, she showed up ten minutes early. Little did she know, he was snoozing his alarm at the time and after he was ten minutes late, she called a friend to ask whether she was being stood up. "I mean, is he worth waiting a little longer?," they said. Elise muddled on it a bit and just before leaving, caught a glimpse of who she thought was Brandon running down the street. "Oh, my god. He's literally running towards me as we speak. I guess I'm staying." She hung up and listened to a very short-of-breath explanation about how he'll make it up to her. They exchanged stories about their time in San Francisco, they laughed, they paid, and they didn't want the date to end. They walked to the Haight, had a few drinks, and he recommended that they go to the Alembic to try one of his favorite dishes: the duck hearts. She pretended to be excited, but she was just hoping she could manage to choke one down. As they evening progressed, they felt more and more at ease. When they reached Elise's front door, she realized she left her apartment key inside and none of her roommates were home. To this day Brandon thinks this was all a ploy to spend more time together, but she'll never tell. She slept on his couch, they got coffee the next morning, they promptly retired their OkCupid accounts, and the rest is history.
