We have been together for nearly 10 years – in fact, July 21, 2023, is the 10-year anniversary of our very first date, during which we walked around downtown Boston and forgot to actually find a place to eat dinner before everything closed. We have lived together for almost as long, having moved into our cozy Quincy apartment in 2014. Those facts, combined with the fact that neither of us are really interested in having a big “traditional” wedding, led us to this admittedly unique plan for a wedding weekend. We will be getting married at Boston City Hall on Friday, July 21, with our parents in attendance, and afterward we’ll shoot some incredible photos that we will be happily sharing in the weeks and months following. We will then have a small, intimate dinner with some family that evening. On Saturday, July 22, we want to celebrate with you!
We will be hosting a brunch reception at Moonshine 152, one of our favorite spots in all of Boston. Moonshine has been a part of the Rae family since it opened in 2015, and we have spent countless date nights, birthdays, New Year’s Eves, and other holidays there, so there’s no other place that would be more appropriate for us to celebrate the big event! Moonshine is located at 152 Dorchester Ave. in South Boston.
While we would love to see everyone we’ve ever met for a celebration, Moonshine is a small (but very cool) space so we must unfortunately limit our brunch reception crowd to only those who have received an invitation, either via email or in the mail.
We love your kids! We really do! However Moonshine is a more adults-oriented space, so we kindly ask that you leave the kiddos with grandma and grandpa, or maybe a beloved aunt and uncle. Just not, like, a stranger off the street. Let’s be reasonable here.
The answer to this question will be obvious as soon as you see the food, but in the meantime: We think a midday Saturday brunch is a great way for everyone to enjoy the day without having to worry about staying overnight away from home (if they don’t want to). If you DO want to make a little weekend trip of it, we also have a few hotel suggestions on our Travel & Lodging Page.
While New England’s climate always offers some surprises, we expect that July 22 will be a very warm day. So we suggest wearing comfortable, non-formal attire. Summer dresses, polos, khakis — that sort of thing. You won’t be turned away at the door if you wear a three-piece suit, but we will question whether you have the stamina to make it all the way to dessert (and you really MUST try Chef Asia’s desserts!)
Although Moonshine is conveniently located right near I-93 and there’s an MBTA Red Line stop about 200 feet away, if you would like to stay overnight Friday and/or Saturday, please visit our Travel & Lodging page for some suggestions. We do not have any blocks reserved at any specific hotel, so the choice is yours!
We deeply appreciate your thoughtful generosity, however we have been making a home together for nearly a decade, and in that time we have accumulated a whole lot of “stuff.” So if you would like to give us a gift to celebrate our marriage, please consider a donation to our honeymoon fund - you can find the details on our Registry page.
Who told you? Who was it? Was it Yuma? She’s such a blabbermouth. Anyway, yes! We will also be hosting an after-party at a tavern/brewery/distillery/speakeasy/abandoned missile silo to be named soon. Stay tuned!
Sadly, the last time we let our cat Yuma go to a restaurant she sent the shrimp cocktail back because it “didn’t have enough shrimp,” and scratched three servers and a line cook. So she will not be joining the festivities, but she will be there, quite literally, in “spirit”—we will have a signature cocktail named for her that you are welcome to order and enjoy!
