It all started junior year at Noblesville High School, in a class called Etymology. It was the first period on their black-and-gold schedule. Elijah sat at a table over to Nevaeh’s right, and for weeks, she couldn’t help but notice him. She swore he had to be a year older, because she’d never seen him before. One day, their teacher announced a partner project. Nevaeh’s friends just happened to all be absent that day. She glanced around the room, saw that Elijah didn’t have a partner either, and decided this was her moment to ask, “Will you be my partner?” They worked together that day, and something just clicked. A few days later, Elijah reached out on Snapchat, but… Nevaeh played a little hard to get and waited three whole months to add him back and reply! Eventually, she snapped him back, and by December of 2018, they were talking every day. Their first hangout was at Dairy Queen, followed by a drive to Atlanta, Indiana, where they listened to their favorite music and talked about everything from movies to philosophy. That night was the start of something special. In the summer of 2019, they realized how closely their lives were already connected, without even knowing it! They had mutual friends, hung out in the same circles, and soon started spending every weekend together, with their friends along for the ride. Between late-night drives, Texas Roadhouse dinners with friends, drive-in movies, and parties, they built the kind of friendship that naturally turned into love. They made it official during Homecoming week of senior year. Then came COVID, a hard time in life that only pushed them closer together. Next came college, and all the challenges that test young love. Nevaeh started college at Ball State while Elijah got credits out of the way at Ivy Tech. When the pandemic took away parts of the college experience, Nevaeh moved home and continued school with Elijah online. They worked at Old Navy together, saved, and supported each other through every season. They eventually graduated from Indiana University with degrees in Psychology and are now both pursuing their master’s degrees through IWU. They are finishing their clinical hours while pursuing a shared dream of becoming clinical psychologists and working in private practice. On their fifth anniversary, Elijah planned the most beautiful day in Brown County, Indiana. They explored the local shops, visited the Hard Truth Distillery, and ended with a sunset picnic in the state park. After a rainy day, the clouds finally parted just enough for the sun to peek through, which was precisely what Elijah had prayed for. That’s where he got down on one knee and asked Nevaeh to marry him. 9.26.2026 will mark 5 days after their 7th anniversary. They will FINALLY be husband and wife! From high school desks to forever!
