Eli and Katie met at a New Years Eve bonfire hosted by Eli's college friends/Katie's trivia regulars. Katie had been gathering the "singles" at the bonfire to invite them to eat grapes under a table at midnight (based on an Italian tradition, where doing so improves your love life for the new year). Eli was one of the singles she wrangled, beginning their conversations throughout the night. Even though Eli had made it to the table when it was well after midnight and all the grapes had been eaten, the ones Katie ate seemed to have worked for them right away! There was an instant connection between them, so much so that they had to continue to spend time together after the party had ended. Well, one of the only places open at 1:30 AM in Birmingham was Cookout, where they went and indulged in some of their favorite delicacies: a corndog for Katie and a quesadilla (or two) for Eli. Corndogs and quesadillas have become a New Years tradition for them that they look forward to every year! Who would have thought that such a deep and strong love story could start with grapes, corndogs, and quesadillas?
