The place where it all started for us! There isn't enough space to talk about all of the amazing things that Mission Waco does as a nonprofit. Go take a tour of Urban REAP, an aquaponics greenhouse created to grow organic produce for the community. Then stop by the Jubilee Food Market, which brings healthy and affordable food to the “food desert” of North Waco. And don't forget to check out the World Cup Cafe, they serve some pretty awesome breakfast and lunch. The best part is that it's all conveniently in a one block radius!
Elijah's favorite thing about Waco, hands down! Hike or bike on tranquil trails through a forest of cedars and live oaks, take in stunning views of the mighty Brazos River, or simply savor a picnic with a refreshing side of sunshine. There’s no wrong way to get outdoors at Cameron Park, a 400-acre oasis just a mile from downtown Waco.
A Waco staple! Originally opened 1917, The Waco Hippodrome Theatre has been a staple through the many eras that the city of Waco's downtown has seen. Currently, the Hippodrome is a source for classic films, live music, comedy and theatre. It also has a full service in-theatre dining experience, as well as a mezzanine level restaurant and bar overlooking Austin Avenue.
Texas whiskey is some of the finest around and no one makes it like Waco’s own Balcones Distilling. Specializing in handcrafted, small-batch spirits, the distillery has racked up more than 140 national and international awards. Needless to say, a stop by Balcones is a must! Advance reservations are required to go on the tour, so make sure to book your spot beforehand.
Waco Winery is Waco’s first and only vineyard that is locally owned and operated. This new addition to Waco's downtown scene features an indoor tasting room and large rooftop patio with amazing views.
