Our Love Story

It all began in 2009 with a phone call—and a little help from a mutual friend, Pernesso Geffrard (who’s now our best man!). At the time, Elidonne was studying in California and living with her host family, Mrs. Adelina and Mr. Salvador Gonzalez, while Greg was living in Massachusetts. During a chat, Pernesso told Elidonne that he had a good friend who’s single and would be a good fit for her. Elidonne agreed that Pernesso should pass her number along to Greg. And soon after, Greg gave Elidonne a call. From that first conversation, something just clicked. We talked about everything—our families, our daily lives, our dreams. Though we’d never met in person, our lives were surprisingly connected. We both grew up in Mirebalais, Haiti. Elidonne used to walk past Greg’s family’s home on her way to school. She knew Greg’s parents, brothers, sisters and cousin, but somehow she and Greg had never crossed paths. For months, we talked nearly every day. Then one day, Greg didn’t pick up the phone. Elidonne had a feeling something was off but didn’t want to push. Turns out, he had traveled to Haiti. When he returned, things picked up right where they left off. In the spring, Greg made a big move—he flew to California to surprise Elidonne for her graduation. It was then that Greg said he wanted to be more than just friends. Elidonne made the next big move when she visited Greg in Massachusetts over her birthday. He treated her to cake, flowers, and a dinner date at The Cheesecake Factory. Soon after, Elidonne returned to Haiti to live and work in Port-au-Prince, but they never lost touch. In 2012, Greg surprised Elidonne again—this time Tabarre 27 in Haiti. With the help of his brother and brother-in-law, Michel, he found her place, even after being stopped by the police for driving around in circles! Elidonne was completely shocked when Greg showed up while she was doing her aunt’s hair Micheline. But, she left in her jeans and t-shirt and let the boys drive her to Mirebalais. Along the way, they stopped at Mòn Kabrit—a serene mountain spot with a lake, little boats, and sweeping green views. As everyone admired the scenery, Elidonne turned around and saw Greg on one knee. He proposed right there. Elidonne burst into tears—completely surprised, completely moved—and said yes. A week later, with our parents’ blessing, we got married at a courthouse in our hometown. Greg’s brother and brother-in-law stood by his side, and Elidonne’s parents and friend Barrah, who was her maid of honor, were there for her. It was a simple and joyful day, that we will cherish forever. Over the next few years, life took us on different journeys—Elidonne remained in Haiti for a scholarship, then worked in the Dominican Republic, while Greg returned to the U.S. Eventually, we reunited in Massachusetts, bought a home, and in 2019, welcomed our greatest joy: our son, Noah. Now, after 15 years of marriage, we’re ready for a wedding that reflects our faith, our growth, and our enduring love. Noah, now old enough to ask questions and share dreams of his own, wants to see his parents get married (again!)—this time in front of God, family, and friends. Thank you for being part of our journey. We can’t wait to celebrate with you.
