Dimitri The Koumbaro

A koumbaro is a person chosen by the couple to serve as the spiritual witness in the ceremony. Dimitri is Eleni's cousin. During their summers spent in the village as kids, they jokingly promised each other he would be her koumbaro if they time came.

The priest places the stefana (wedding crowns) that are connected by a ribbon, symbolizing unity on the bride and groom's heads. The koumbaro exchanges them three times between the couple's heads to seal their union.
