August 15 - Celebration of the Dormition of the Theotokos
Celebrate the Dormition of the Theotokos (August 15) – One of the most important Greek Orthodox holidays, this feast honors the Virgin Mary’s passing into eternal life. The Church of Panagia Giatrisa in Loutraki hosts major celebrations, beginning on the night of August 14 with a Great Vespers service and a procession of the Virgin Mary's icon through the town. Vendors line the streets around the church. On August 15, Divine Liturgy is held in the morning.
