We are thrilled to be sealed in the Temple, so our marriage can last throughout eternity. In the Temple, we will make a covenant before God to honor one another and always remember Jesus Christ.
Question

What happens in a Latter-day Saint Sealing Ceremony?

Answer

In a Latter-day Saint sealing ceremony, the bride and groom kneel and join hands across a simple altar. They promise to honor and love one another, and they commit to follow Jesus Christ. In return, they are promised sealing blessings of receiving all the Father has, including having their marriage and family last forever, even beyond death. This is called the new and everlasting covenant. The new and everlasting covenant “is the sum total of all gospel covenants and obligations” given anciently and again restored to the earth in these latter days. This is explained in Doctrine and Covenants 66:2: “Verily I [the Lord] say unto you, blessed are you for receiving mine everlasting covenant, even the fulness of my gospel, sent forth unto the children of men, that they might have life and be made partakers of the glories which are to be revealed in the last days, as it was written by the prophets and apostles in days of old.” Because the covenant has been restored in the last dispensation of time, it is “new,” and because it spans all eternity, it is “everlasting.”

Question

Why can only covenanted and faithful Latter-day Saints attend Temple sealing ceremonies?

Answer

To Latter-day Saints, Temples are considered houses of God and places of holiness. They are held as one of the most sacred places on earth. Only Latter-day Saints who have a current Temple recommend are allowed into the Temple. Latter-day Saints believe modern Temples are the present-day corollary to Moses' Tabernacle and Solomon's Temple in the Old Testament. In these sacred spaces, spiritual preparation was essential to enter and spiritual authorization was required to administer ordinances. Similarly, Latter-day Saints believe that spiritual preparation, including baptism by one holding the priesthood authority restored by God in our time, is necessary before entering the Temple. Latter-day Saints want everyone to receive the blessings of keeping sacred covenants made in these modern-day Houses of the Lord. The culminating blessing is sealing families here on earth beyond the bonds of death. This is one of the driving motivations behind their emphasis on missionary work.

Question

What is the history of the Provo City Center Temple?

Answer

The Provo City Center Temple is the 150th Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was built on the same site as the former Provo Tabernacle built in 1898, which caught fire in December 2010. The interior of the building was completely destroyed. Only the exterior walls remained. After nearly four years of work, the new Provo City Center Temple was dedicated on March 20, 2016.
