Flight
The closest airport is Blue Grass Airport (LEX) in Lexington, about an hour from the Red River Gorge. Guests flying into LEX will need to rent a car — there’s no public transportation in the area, and ride shares are very limited to non-existent. For additional flight options, Cincinnati (CVG) and Louisville (SDF) are each just over two hours away and may offer more direct routes.
Travel Note
Driving is (unfortunately) the only way to get around the Red River Gorge area. The roads are narrow and winding, so give yourself a little extra time when traveling between places. If you’re renting a car, something with decent clearance (like a small SUV) might be preferable, though not strictly necessary — all roads to the venue and nearby activities are fully accessible by standard vehicles. Our reception will be near Beattyville, KY — exact directions will be provided closer to the date. If you’re traveling from afar and aren’t familiar with the area, John and I are happy to help coordinate transportation or carpooling.
Travel Note
RENTALS There are no hotels in the immediate area, but plenty of cabins and vacation rentals. Airbnb is probably your best bet. - Closer to the venue: Look for cabins in Beattyville or Zoe, KY - Closer to the Gorge/hiking: Search near Slade or Rogers, KY We’re happy to help you choose a cabin/location that works best for you — feel free to reach out. CAMPING/BACKCOUNTRY OPTIONS - Lago Linda Hideaway – Peaceful campground about 20 minutes away (lagolinda.com) - Land of the Arches – Centrally located and climber-friendly (landofarches.com) - Miguel’s Pizza – A classic RRG camping spot, cheap and easy, but expect a lively (and loud!) atmosphere We know folks will want to head back to a bed after the party, but for anyone who’d prefer not to tackle the windy Gorge roads late at night, you’re welcome to tent or car camp at the venue.
