Como is a province in northern Italy’s Lombardy region, near the Swiss border. Nestled in the foothills of the Alps, it lies about 1 to 1.5 hours north of Milan by car or train. At the heart of the province is Lake Como, a striking upside-down "Y"-shaped lake that’s likely larger than you’d expect. Renowned for its breathtaking scenery, elegant villas, and charming towns, Lake Como is one of Italy’s most iconic and romantic destinations. The capital city of the province, which is also called Como, serves as a gateway to the lake and is surrounded by a collection of picturesque villages that make the area especially popular for weddings and getaways. Laglio is a small town on the western shore of the lake, roughly 20 km north of the city of Como. It's a quiet, elegant town known for its beautiful lakeside villas and tranquil atmosphere. Villa Regina Teodolinda is an exclusive lakeside venue situated in the picturesque village of Laglio. The villa is located at Via Vecchia Regina, 58, 22010 Laglio (CO), approximately 650 meters from the village center.
The most efficient route is to fly into Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP), typically with one stopover. The journey takes approximately 24 to 32 hours, depending on layovers and which major airport your flying from whether that be Brisbane or Sydney for example.
Upon arriving at Milan Malpensa Airport, you have several options: 1. Private Transfer or Taxi Pre-arranged transfers or taxis offer comfort and direct service to your accommodation. 2. Train Take a train from Milan Centrale to Como San Giovanni station, which takes about 1 hour. From there you can either get a taxi or transfer to your accommodation, or you can catch a bus (remember you will have luggage with you also). 3. Rental Car Driving provides flexibility to explore the region at your own pace and make your own way from Milan to where you choose to stay on Lake Como. Please remember to look into parking at your accommodation or in surrounding areas though if you choose this option.
Yes, if... You plan to explore multiple towns around the lake. You like the flexibility of traveling on your own schedule. You are educated with traffic and vehicle rules and laws. No, if... You find public transport easier and are happy utilising it. You’re uncomfortable driving in narrow or hilly roads (common around the lake) and parking in tight spaces. Most of the recommended accommodation options around Lake Como are Airbnb and apartment-style stays, which offer a more relaxed and authentic experience of the area. Staying in Laglio, where the wedding will take place, will offer the most convenient access to the venue and is our top recommendation. Alternatively, the nearby towns of Cernobbio and Brienno are also excellent options as they are still close by. You’re also welcome to stay in Como itself, which has a wider range of hotels and amenities, but please note that it will involve a longer commute to the villa. We would gently encourage you to avoid staying across the lake at least the night before and the night of the wedding, as you will have to organise a boat transfer for your commute. Some of these popular areas that you may have heard of are places like Bellagio and Varenna.
We are not providing pre-arranged transport for our guests to and from the Villa on the wedding day, or the day before for the welcome celebration. As we are leaving accommodation up to each individual, it is likely that there will not be one specific place which would be convenient to all. You will need to make your own way to the Villa on both days, by either a transfer or taxi, bus, or hire car if you have one.
In late April, Lake Como begins to bloom with early springtime beauty. You can typically expect mild weather with daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 20°C. Evenings can be cooler, dipping to around 10°C.
