Our Story

First comes Chipotle, then comes marriage

We met at a conference in September of 2016--Matt was in the hospitality room watching football with some friends. I came up there to get a donut (they were from Donut World so I obviously needed one). I introduced myself to everyone there and then sat down next to Matt and pretended to be interested in football. Then, I felt awkward being the only girl there so I left. We had made some mutual friends and a month later we met again at a Halloween party in Boone, NC. I was dressed up as a cute lil Chipotle burrito. I went and sat next to Matt by the bonfire and we talked for a while. Later, we went with some friends to this creepy abandoned house (dumb idea but I thought it was fun because I was a crazy 19 year old). Matt and I hung back and both stepped on these rusty nails. Matt tried to lighten the mood by hiding behind things and popping out saying, “AH” to scare me. Then, I called my mom to ask if I had Tetanus. When in doubt, call your mom. Aside from that, we had a great time and ended up becoming best friends and we didn’t get Tetanus (yay). A few months later, I thought to myself, “Yeah, I’ll probably marry him.” February 23rd, 2017, we were eating lunch at Chipotle and I asked him to be my boyfriend. Ever since then our love for each other has grown more and more with each passing day. I waited (impatiently) for 3 years until finally, on June 12th, 2020, he took me to a beautiful park in Greensboro where he popped the question! I tried to act like I didn’t know what was going on, but I definitely got my nails done the day before and wore a white blouse to the park. These past few years have been filled with laughter, joy, challenges, and tears (especially 2020) and I can't imagine going through this journey of life without my best friend and partner by my side. I am extremely grateful for the relationship we have today and am so excited to marry my sweet, loving, strong, amazing other half. <3 NEWGIBSONTHEBLOCK LET'S GOOOO
