Our friends Claire and Chris strongly disliked Elaine's boyfriend in 2016. So, they came up with a plan. Markie got us all free VIP tickets to Knotfest that year in San Bernardino, her friend was dating the drummer for Slayer. Chris and Claire brought Geddy to set up with Elaine. The festival was a lot of fun, we got to meet Slayer and hang out in their trailer. We got to be on the main stage while Anthrax performed. Elaine and Geddy even got a picture with Randy Blythe of Lamb of God. Obviously, nothing happened between Geddy and Elaine, we just became friends on social media. Three years later, Geddy says Elaine "posted a picture that made her look single" so he shot his shot. He slid into her DMS with a "Wanna see the new M Night Shyamalan movie sometime?" After some negotiation...and a few no's from Elaine... Geddy finally got a "come over" text to watch The Hobbit movies together. And even though Geddy showed up with a bottle of wine and the news that he doesn't drink (what!!!) and politely refused Elaine's offer of a garlic pizza (what!!!??!!!) we enjoyed the night together. After two more dates, we became official. And the rest is private.
When we were brainstorming for a summer trip, we checked cruise deals, saw that there was a 7-night Alaska cruise for a great deal, and booked it immediately! Elaine made the off-hand remark that diamonds go really well with glaciers. Geddy got the hint and spoke with Elaine's parents to get their blessing to ask for her hand in marriage, which they gave. Geddy carried the ring in "the largest ring box ever" in his pocket all day, every day, waiting for the perfect moment to pop the question (he sure did take his time!!!). On the 5th day, Geddy proposed on the beach in Sitka, Alaska with bald eagles soaring overhead. The next day, at a local jewelry store in Ketchikan, Elaine and Geddy bought beautiful, matching wedding bands decorated with Alaskan gold nuggets.
