Lainey and Moustafa were unknowingly in the same 5th grade class and grew up 2 miles apart. Through high school Moustafa had noticed Lainey in several classes...She slept through many of them. Their senior year the couple shared the same circle of friends and were very quickly drawn to one another. After spending a week being inseparable, the two went to see a horrible X-Men movie with their friends post-graduation. After the midnight movie, as Moustafa was dropping her off at home, Lainey made the decision then and there: "I'm going to change my FaceBook status to 'in a relationship' now" (be kind, it was 2011!) Moustafa smiled back and said "me too." Lainey continued to insist their anniversary was on the 5th until realizing her mistake five years in.

When Moustafa had booked a few days at a beach front resort Lainey assumed it was because they had been working hard while surviving the past year. Their first day at the resort Moustafa found a dried piece of coral in the sand and offered it to Lainey (she collects rocks and the like). That evening Moustafa suggested a walk on the beach before dinner. Lainey trudged along in strappy heels--that took way too long put on and would have taken longer to get off--and black, velvet bellbottoms as Moustafa insisted on going further and further down the shore in attempts to get away from the remaining beach dwellers. As Lainey shuffled through the sands, trying to remain optimistic and agreeing to how beautiful the tide was against the shore, Moustafa pretended another piece of coral had caught his eye. He called out "oh hey, look, another rock!" Lainey turned around to find Moustafa on one knee, ring in hand. -- * Moustafa would like the record to show he proposed prior to our 10 year anniversary.
