How We Met

Just co-workers...Or so we thought!

About 4 years ago we met at work. Marcus was helping clean off equipment at work. We made small talk about work and life. I thought to myself "he would make a great husband". Despite those thoughts we pretty much were on a "hi and bye" basis for the next two years. Coincidentally, we both quit our jobs around the same time. We reconnected a few months later and congratulated each other on our new jobs. Fast forward a few weeks later and Marcus is helping me move furniture into my new apartment. A year and a half later Marcus proposed.

The Proposal

Opps

Early Christmas morning around 5am, I (Elaine) received a phone call from my father requesting to drop him and his wife off at the airport. I didn't want to drive my own vehicle because it was dirty. Marcus had just purchased a brand new truck and of course it was clean. Marcus was still asleep. I thought to myself "maybe I should ask before taking it" but the women in me said "What's his, is mines, right?" So I arrive at my father’s house and while he and his wife are loading the truck up with luggage, I go inside to use the restroom. I come back outside to the truck and when I opened the car door, I spot a neatly placed Jared bag on the floor board of the driver’s seat. I didn't see it before I got to the house, and the bag was sitting there up right like someone had placed it there so I assumed it was a gift my dad was hiding from his wife. (I mean, it was Christmas!) I didn't want to spoil the surprise so I didn't say anything about the bag and drove all the way to airport, unbeknownst to me, with my engagement ring underneath my feet! We get to the airport, and my dad’s wife gets out of the truck. My dad comes around to the driver side of the truck for a hug. I hand him his wife's "gift" and he looks at me confused. I asked him "is this not yours?" and he says no. That's when I realized what may have been in the Jared bag. I stuff the bag underneath the seat of the truck and drive home thinking about how I'm going to act fake surprised when Marcus proposes. Marcus had already asked my dad for my hand in marriage so he pre warned Marcus about me finding the ring. I arrive home and open the front door and find Marcus standing on the other side of the door and he's asking me why I had to be so nosey. He walks past me to gets the ring out of truck, walks back in the house and gets down on one knee and says "Will you marry me?. I laugh and said yes! He didn't get to surprise me but I was happy, loved my ring and loved him so...it worked out lol.
