We know that traveling to a wedding in Africa was always going to be tricky. COVID-19 has just made things more complicated (although cheaper!). If you aren't able to make it for the big day in person, there will be a live screening of the wedding film on the 30th of January at 10am CST. You can register your attendance for our Virtual Wedding the same way you RSVP for the live one. Please contact Elaine with all of your questions.
It was the first day of teacher orientation for the 2019-2020 school year. As a new teacher, Elaine was hauled on stage and introduced to the whole staff. At the very next session, a secondary-teacher meeting, Elaine sat in a free seat that happened to be next to Gideon. He turned to her and said, "I didn't realize you spent time in Migori." They haven't stopped chatting since.
Gideon surprised Elaine. This was not an easy task since they flew the ring in from the US and Elaine knew it had arrived. But Gideon used a decoy date of a hike to throw her off the scent. With the help of close friends in Kenya, Gideon got Elaine to a nice restaurant dressed in her favorite dress to have dinner with another couple. Shortly after arriving, Gideon excused himself for a moment. When he returned, he didn't sit but stood at Elaine's side. When she joined him standing, he asked, with tears in his yes, "Why do you drive so fast?" After a laugh and a response, "because I like to be first," Elaine took her seat again. This time, when Gideon bade her rise, he dropped to a knee and asked her to marry him. She responded with head nodding and eventually found her voice to confirm her answer as, "I will". After congratulatory interactions with the other couple and a surprise photographer, Elaine thought to sit again for the meal. However, the other couple led Gideon and Elaine into a large room with more dear friends, and her parents via FaceTime, waiting to celebrate with the newly engaged couple.
