May Wedding Updates

As many of you know, with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, we were forced to make last minute changes to our wedding plans in September. We were devastated that we were not able to celebrate with everyone as we had hoped. While we postponed our wedding date to May 28th, 2021, we did get married in a small ceremony with our families and a few close friends on the beach in Breezy Point on September 6th, 2020. The day was filled with love, and although it was not what we had originally planned, was perfect nonetheless. Even though we are married, we still plan on having a wedding on May 28th! We have discussed this for many months, trying to make a plan that will allow us to spend time with our family and friends, while also maintaining safety for our guests. To make this happen, we have decided to limit the amount of in-person guests at the wedding venue and extend an invitation to attend virtually to the rest of our guests. We have sent out change the dates with this information, and will be sending formal invitations so that our guests know if they are invited to attend in person or virtually. We hope that everyone understands that we did not want to leave anyone out of this celebration, and are trying to move forward with a wedding in a safe way. Our hearts were broken with the last minute changes in September because our vision was always to celebrate our love with ALL of you! We hope that in the future, when the world is safer, we will be able to get everyone together for a big celebration. Until that day, we want to keep everyone as safe as possible, and think that this is the right way to do that. Please know that we love each and every one of you, and look forward to seeing you on our big day, whether it be at the venue, or virtually! Please also know that any guests invited to attend the wedding ceremony in person, who would prefer to attend virtually, are more than welcome to do so. We want everyone to do what is best for them!

Our Story

EJ and I met on the very last day of school at Binghamton University through some mutual friends. We had both just graduated and were soon heading back to our respective homes, EJ to Long Island, and Kelly to Rochester. Over the summer, I happened to see EJ while visiting friends on Long Island. We texted a few times, and then saw each other at Binghamton twice during alumni events in the fall. A few months and a lot of text messages later, I flew to visit EJ in Long Island. I was taking classes at the local community college in Rochester to try and get into a fast-track nursing program. Because of this, the only real time I had free to visit EJ was during Thanksgiving. So that's what I did! He picked me up from JFK on Thanksgiving day in 2011 and took me to his Grandma's house in Breezy Point, where I met his entire family. I should mention here that EJ has 17 first cousins. "Hi, I'm Kelly. EJ's....friend?" We had hit it off that weekend during my first visit, but we didn't officially start dating until he came to visit me in Rochester in January 2012. We dated for the first half of that year long distance. In May of 2012 I found out the long distance relationship was going to continue because I had been accepted to the accelerated nursing program at Binghamton. Although we were cutting 145 miles and a few hours of travel time between us, we were going to be apart for at least another year. After I graduated (again), I passed my RN licensing exam and got a job on Long Island. We were finally able to be together! I moved to Long Island from Rochester and we have been living here together for seven years now. To celebrate our "unofficial anniversary" during Thanksgiving of 2018, we visited Acadia National Park in Maine. EJ took me up the Beehive Trail, a trail that had metal ladders to scale up...did I mention that it was snowing and there was ice everywhere?! At the top, EJ proposed, and of course, I said yes!
