One of our all-time favorite spots to hike, fish, and just wander around. We’ve made so many memories here—family days with the kids splashing like little fish, EJ patiently teaching them to cast a line (and quickly remembering that fishing with kids is not exactly relaxing), and evening hikes with just us and the dogs. Add in a few kayak trips down the river, and it’s safe to say this place has our hearts. It’s beautiful, powerful at times as history unfolds, but it remains so special to us.
Okay... so according to EJ... This is "The best steak in Texas!", so much so, that this is where he wants to do the rehearsal dinner. The steakhouse and the rodeo have different hours, so keep that of note. The rodeo is only on Saturdays and tickets sell out well in advance so...Make reservations EARLY!

The quiet small town of Blanco sits just 20 minutes North of our town of Bulverde, and hosts the beautiful Blanco River! This was our first fishing spot together. And, not to mention, where EJ fell in the water!!
Yes, Boerne has grown tremendously, but it's historic downtown is a great spot to visit! There is a river where ducks beg to be fed... pretty sure they have signs now that say you can't feed them anymore :( There are lots of shops, restaurants, breweries, nature stores and trails to the river. If you do come back at Christmas, they shut down the roads for pedestrian traffic only, and turn the whole hill country mile into a Christmas experience!
One of our best date adventures ever! It is incredible how visiting places I have been to growing up, is a whole new experience when you get to explore them with your best friend! endless fishing holes, waterfalls, River-carved formations and craters, and crystal clear waters. Such an amazing trip that we highly recommend.
Very quiet nature park right near town. Very scenic park with short trails and stream running through it. Folks usually head out there for everything from quick trek, learning in the nature center, or for graduation and family photos. The Nature Center features a gift shop that is worth stopping to see.
3 levels of Texas Western art and artifacts, including a section on weapons, horse tack, and full size wagon! This was actually one of the venues we considered for hosting the wedding!
The lobby of the Menger Hotel is a free access museum of sorts, with many artifacts and signs on display from their historic past. This is a place that EJ and I have as a must-stop when we visit downtown. The old Menger Bar is listed as one of the most historic places, dating from 1887, Teddy Roosevelt himself frequented it himself to recruit his Rough Riders. You can even see old bullet holes in the walls- the staff will be happy to show you if you ask.
When it compared to Natural Bridge Caverns or Carlsbad, these are bit of a hole in the wall, pun intended, but worth every minute of your visit. The tour guides are very friendly and well-informed. Other more popular cave systems may have similar rock formations, but Cascade Caverns has wildlife too. High chance on your visit you'll see bats and cave salamanders!
