It all began with Amy

You've heard of Tinder right? That one app people use to chit chat and make connections? Well it just so turns out Edwin and Daniel both happened to have a profile and were 'swiping' through when they saw each other. Edwin saw a photo of Daniel doing a yoga pose in the water and noted his favorite song was "Tears Dry on Their Own" by Amy Winehouse. Daniel saw Edwin's photo in his 5.5" shorts with a flower wall backdrop and thought he was a soccer player. Edwin likes to say Daniel, "Super-Swiped" him (an action to show extreme interest) but the debate is still out that... Edwin reached out to Daniel for kudos to his good music taste, and Daniel learned Edwin's favorite Amy Winehouse song was "Me and Mr. Jones." Through some back and forth, Daniel and Edwin found out they didn't live that far from each other. Edwin was living in Berkeley, CA and Daniel was living in San Jose, CA, commuting to Berkeley while working through his Clinical Laboratory Scientist internship at Kaiser Permanente Regional Lab. When it came time to meet for the first time, Edwin and Daniel's timing couldn't have been better. San Francisco Pride 2018 was only 4 days away and neither of them had been out to this event. Both Daniel and Edwin had already made plans to meet up with their friends who were encouraging them to come out. They agreed to meet up if the timing was right that night. Well, friends get tired, as they so often do, but Daniel and Edwin were not. By the time their friends were ready to leave, Daniel messaged Edwin to see if he wanted to go to one last bar to meet up. Edwin agreed and Daniel went to wait for Edwin. At the corner of Dolores St. and 18th St, Daniel waited on the corner for Edwin to arrive, anticipation and nerves on the rise. Daniel and Edwin finally saw each other, both happy to see they held up their goal to try and meet. They spent the rest of the night chatting, laughing, drinking, and dancing until the bars were getting ready to close. From that night on, they both made plans to see each other when they could, holding up their promises and always following through on their plans. Meetups turned into outings which turned into dates which turned into trips. Before they knew it, 3 years of semi-long distance had come and gone. It was about time they took their relationship and applied the ultimate test: living together. Moving in together in San Mateo, CA as it turns out, is surprisingly easy when you already spent so much time at each other's places. Moving in felt like home: safe, comforting, and respectful. Movie nights, home cooking, playing vinyls, reading on the couch slowly became their favorite wild night in. Then one day in 2024, they decided to travel to Italy, their longest international trip to date. While out there making a trip out of a friends wedding, Daniel and Edwin made their way to Lake Como. To say this lake where Gwen Stefani filmed her music video "Cool" was jaw droppingly beautiful would be an understatement. Daniel put on that exact song as they both walked out onto their balcony overlooking the beautiful lake and held each other. As they settled into their hotel room, Edwin went out to the balcony right after it stopped raining and called Daniel to come check out the view again. As Daniel walked out, he saw a trail of rose petals scattered through the balcony. Daniel, slightly spacey, chalked it up to the wind knocking down petals from a bush nearby. As Daniel walked out, Edwin held him from behind and whispered, "Wouldn't this be a great place to get engaged?" Daniel nodded and agreed. Edwin said, "Well why not do it now." and got down on one knee to present Daniel with a ring and ask for his hand in marriage. Daniel through tears nodded and said "Yes". Now here they are, two years later, ready to seal their love at Roaring Camp Railroad in Felton, CA surrounded by friends and family near and far!
