Travel Note
The weather in Anchorage is relatively cool in the summer. Lows are often in the mid-40s, and highs are usually in the lower-60s but occasionally reach 70s. Although June is usually sunny, sometimes it will rain for weeks straight. Be ready for cooler weather. Layers are helpful!
Travel Note
Alaska experiences unusually long hours of daylight in the summer. In June in Anchorage, sunset falls around midnight and sunrise is around 4am. In the four hours of "darkness" it is still fairly light outside and more like dusk. We recommend bringing eye masks to block out the light while you sleep.
Travel Note
In the summer, wildlife is very active in Anchorage. Bears can be an issue if you are hiking or spending time in the woods, but they are typically not an issue in the city. If you do go hiking, make sure to bring bear spray. Moose, however, are more dangerous and spend time with their calves in the neighborhoods. While it can be safe to take a picture of a moose from your car, do not approach moose, especially if they have young.
Travel Note
Uber and Lyft are pretty reliable in Anchorage (and even to Eagle River) but if you want to explore further, renting a car, riding a train or taking a flight is the way to go.
Travel Note
Since June is in the middle of tourist season, hotels won't let us reserve room blocks. There are several hotels in the center of town (look off of C St. between Int'l Airport and Tudor). These hotels are between the wedding and the reception. For a more active downtown experience, look at hotels near the reception venue, the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center. There are several options near the airport as well.
