Before we met, Edward was working in Villahermosa, Tabasco with ICON building a 3D-printed community. I had just moved back to Chiapas, and was working in a Women's Health Clinic in San Cristóbal. Our fates were brought together one very beautiful and sunny day in San Cristóbal de las Casas. He was visiting for the weekend in an attempt to get away from the relentless heat in Villahermosa and I had the day off. It was pure magic. We spent the weekend together. We talked about absolutely everything. And ultimately, we fell in love.
Quarantine started for us on Edward's birthday. His work notified him that there would be a two week lockdown in an effort to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. So Edward made the five hour trip from Villahermosa to San Cristóbal. Honestly, my first thought was that the whole thing would be over in three days, and that would be it. In the end, it turned into three months. The world and us would never be the same. We were very fortunate to quarantine in a house built by my father almost two decades ago in the outskirts of San Cristóbal de las Casas. I had moved there two years prior after moving from Monterrey where I had just finished my first job as a new doctor. When I first moved into the house there were barely any doors, no windows, no floors. So when the lockdown first began, besides being thrown into an unprecedented global crisis and then the existential crisis that this inevitably created...we spent our days working from home, hanging out with our cats and dogs, enjoying nature. Soon, what had essentially been a forgotten house, turned into our first home. This is when we both knew we would be together forever.
When we learned that Edward had to go back to Austin, Texas for work and that because of the pandemic there was a possibility of us becoming separated - we felt the last little push we needed to decide to tie our lives together. Once in Austin, on a very very hot Texas evening, at our quaint Airbnb, Edward claims he just couldn't wait any longer, got down on one knee, and politely proposed. There are no photos or witnesses of the moment, but it will live forever in our memory as one of the single most romantic and beautiful evenings of our lives. And the wedding planning began ...
The future seems very uncertain these days, but the last thing we wanted to do was let that get in the way of love. Our decision to go digital was an easy one. With the pandemic raging we could not possibly intend to put our friends and family in harms way, so we decided to have a very sweet and small wedding with the vast majority of our guests online. This tiny pandemic wedding will be taking place on the evening of September the 2nd -- The Harvest Moon of 2020 -- at 7:30PM (Central Time) -- live streamed from our little rental in south Austin, Texas. We cannot wait to see everyone there!! WEDDING CEREMONY LINK: https://www.twitch.tv/edwardandzinzigetmarried
