How It All Began

A wedding brought us together, love made us stay.

Every love story has its defining moment, and ours began at her brother’s wedding. I was behind the camera, doing what I’ve always loved—capturing memories. I was there with Owusu, my brother and business partner, covering the traditional ceremony. In the middle of all the energy and celebration, one person caught my eye. Her name was Sharissa. There was something about her—the way she smiled, the grace in her movement, and the tenderness with which she cared for her younger brother. It stopped me in my tracks. I leaned over to Owusu and whispered, “Bro, do you see that girl? Look at her smile. If I don’t end up with her, then I’m not getting married at all. This is my last stop.” Owusu laughed and told me to go talk to her. He mentioned she was the groom’s sister—but when he added that she wasn’t from Ghana, I immediately assumed she must already have someone in her life. And the truth is, if she had turned me down, I knew it would mess up my whole day—we still had her brother’s white wedding to shoot the next morning. So, I stayed professional. The next day came, and so did her brother’s white wedding. The groom was dressing up at a completely different location, and I was there, doing my work—but honestly, her smile never left my head. I told myself I’d talk to her at the reception once everything was done. Owusu nudged me again, even suggesting I go shoot the bridal team since she was part of it. But once again, I chose my lane: capturing the groom, her brother, and keeping it strictly work. Still, I couldn’t ignore her laughter, her energy, her presence. She had a light that filled the room—or maybe that’s just how I felt about her, lol. I promised myself I’d talk to her at the reception, but fate had other plans. Once again, I let work be my excuse. She left, and just like that, the moment slipped away. Weeks later, I posted some of the wedding photos on my Instagram story. To my surprise, she reposted them too. That little interaction opened a door I thought had closed. We started talking—about the wedding, about life, even about kenkey. She loved it; I didn’t (at least not back then). But that playful back-and-forth became the spark. From there, the conversations never stopped. Even though I hadn’t spoken to her in person at the wedding, the universe clearly had its own way of bringing us together. And today, here we are—ready to make this a forever thing.
