Eddie and Celeste met in the fall of 2014 in an 8:00 a.m. Friday math class — one of the very first classes of their first year of college. No one is quite sure why Eddie signed up for it, especially since he usually arrived about 20 minutes late. Because of this, he often ended up sitting in the back next to a group of seemingly Mexican girls — one of them being Celeste. After a few weeks, Eddie may or may not have scanned the class list looking for last names ending in “-ez,”. Scanning “Gomez”, “Marquez”, “Lopez” – and there it was - “Martinez.” Following a few smiles and glances at the flustered guy in a hat who walked in late every class, Eddie tagged along with Celeste and her friends to grab food after class — and something clicked. It wasn’t instant “love love”. It was a different “type of love”. The kind that lasts longer than most college flings. It was the love that made Celeste keep inviting Eddie to hang out despite his lack of interest in parties and strong interest in Cold War documentaries, and the love that made Eddie take late-night Red Line stops just to make sure Celeste got home safely from work downtown. It was phone calls until the sun rose talking about life or bad dates. It wasn’t romantic at all — until suddenly, it very much was. That friendship eventually grew into a relationship after years of being inseparable, even if everyone else had been expecting for it to happen much sooner. Nearly ten years later, their friends are not “his” and “hers”. Their families are “Martinez” and “Bonneau-Smith”. This wedding is a big “thank you” to those who brought us together, who keep us together, and who are apart of this love.
