Every great love story has its unique beginning, and ours unfolded in a place where most people fall in love with books: the first-year at Eck Hall of Law. As wide-eyed 1Ls, we were navigating a maze of case law, late-night study sessions, and the constant pressure of cold calls. But amid all the chaos, we found something extraordinary: each other. Our story began simply. We quickly bonded over silly things, but as the story truly goes, Amanda went up to Eddie at the bar and said “contrary to popular opinion, I actually like you.” What started as a friendship grew deeper with every coffee-fueled study session and every long night preparing for finals. Eddie's firey demeanor balanced Amanda’s tendency to be on overdrive. We both pushed each other to study hard and do well in school, while simultaneously trying to date. We both credit our Catholic faith as the foundation of our bond. Early on, we’d talk about our shared values—family, service, and love rooted in something greater than ourselves. Whether it was attending Mass together or simply finding moments of gratitude amidst the rigors of law school, our faith was a steady compass, guiding us toward a future we were only beginning to imagine. Of course, law school wasn’t all solemn reflection. For Amanda, she fell for his personality. Eddie has a knack for making life feel like a celebration, and nowhere was this more evident than in the simple mundane tasks of the day-to-day. He brought the fun with his signature “sopranos” charm and Amanda balanced his craziness. For Eddie, it was the quieter moments that sealed the deal—studying side by side in the library or walking to grab coffee after an exhausting lecture. We never ran out of things to say, but even when words weren’t necessary, the comfort of just being together was everything. As we grew closer, love felt less like a grand epiphany and more like the natural next step—an inevitable path written into our lives long before we met. Somewhere between final exams and mock trials, we became each other’s greatest joy and unwavering support. The rest, as they say, is history. From 1L jitters to the life we’re building now, every moment feels like a testament to the simple yet profound truth we’ve always known: when God writes your story, the plot is nothing short of perfect. Now, as we prepare for our wedding day in beautiful Toledo, Spain, we’re overwhelmed with gratitude. For the chance meeting that changed our lives. For the faith that brought us closer. And for the love that will carry us into every chapter to come. Here’s to the journey—one that started with coffee dates, Irish goodbyes, cheering on the Fighting Irish, and the quiet certainty that we’d found something truly special. - The Soon to be Sotos
