I have countless memories with Alex, but if I had to choose one, it would be our first trip to Vegas—and especially the ride back. In 2013, not many cars had dual A/C controls, but Alex’s Lexus did, along with seat warmers. That detail will matter in a second. Anyone who knows me knows that if I’m tired, I can fall asleep anywhere and sure enough, I dozed off on the drive home from Vegas. It was the blazing Nevada heat, and Alex thought it’d be hilarious to turn up my temperature and switch on my seat warmers. I’d wake up drenched in sweat, glance at the A/C display, see it showing “cool,” and go right back to sleep completely clueless. For four hours, I was being roasted alive while Alex laughed her ass off the whole way home.
