Question

When & where is the wedding?

Answer

The wedding is on Tuesday, December 29, 2026 in Quito, Ecuador. It is composed of 2 main events: the ceremony and then the reception. The ceremony is where we will get officially married. It will take place at 12:00 pm at a local church called Guapulo. You may copy the following URL and paste it into your search bar to see the church's location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/kobFzNpTRfSEiqSd7. The reception is where we will celebrate after the ceremony. It will take place starting around 2 pm at La Palma Polo Club. You may copy the following URL and paste it into your search bar to see the reception's location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/TLj46uWwU4VXC8o88.

Question

When & where should I arrive?

Answer

The airport to arrive into is UIO in Quito, Ecuador. We recommend arriving between Saturday, December 26th and Sunday December 27th, so you may join us for the Optional Welcome Tour on Monday (click the RSVP tab on top to learn more about this and RSVP)! See the Travel tab on top to learn more about how we recommend to arrive.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

See the Travel tab on top to see hotels that Elly and Daniel recommend. They are all within a short taxi ride away from La Palma Polo Club (where the reception is). If you are planning to stay in Ecuador to explore the Quito before or after the wedding, we recommend that you stay in hotels or airbnbs near el Parque la Carolina or El Centro Historico since these are more central areas and are more accesible to the other places to visit in Quito. However, if you join our welcome tour, you will get to explore Quito with us as a group :)

Question

How do I get around in Quito?

Answer

UBER is widely accepted and safe to use in Ecuador in general. However, there aren't as many drivers as we're used to in the USA. Most locals get around in taxis. You may ask your hotel to call you a taxi. You would pay taxis in cash. We recommend carrying small bills and coins to pay taxis. We also have the contact of a reliable, safe driver that can take you around the city or the neighboring towns. Ask us for more information!

Question

What is the money currency in Ecuador? How much money should I bring? Do they accept credit cards?

Answer

Ecuador uses the US dollar $. So, you do not need to exchange any money coming from the USA. We recommend bringing a small amount of cash with you on the plane in case you need to pay for something with cash (such as a taxi, a small bite to eat, etc.). You can take out more cash in an ATM in Ecuador using your US debit card. However, your US bank will likely charge you an international transaction fee. This is usually $5-15. We recommend taking out more cash from an ATM upon arrival, keeping it in your hotel room in a safe place throughout the trip, and bringing out the cash you plan to spend with you on any given day. Yes, Ecuadorian restaurants, retail stores, hotels, and other merchants widely accept credit cards. However, we recommend carrying some cash to pay smaller businesses, taxis, and to tip.

Question

What is the tipping culture in Ecuador?

Answer

Tipping in Ecuador is different from what many guests are used to in the United States. Service workers are generally paid wages that do not rely heavily on tips, and many businesses automatically include a service charge in the bill. At restaurants, it is common to see a 10% service charge (“servicio”) already added to the bill, along with tax. If this service charge is included, an additional tip is not expected. If service is exceptional, guests sometimes leave a small extra amount or round up the bill, but this is optional. For cafés, bars, taxis, and ride services, tipping is not expected. Locals sometimes round up the fare or leave small change, but there is no standard percentage like in the U.S. For hotels, small tips are appreciated but modest. For example, about $1 per bag for bellhops or around $1 per day for housekeeping is considered generous. If you are joining tours or excursions while visiting, it is common to tip guides $5–10 per person for a full-day tour and a few dollars for drivers, though this is also optional. In general, tipping in Ecuador is seen as a kind gesture rather than an obligation. A friendly attitude and a simple “gracias” go a long way!

Question

What is the schedule for the day of the wedding?

Answer

See the Schedule tab on top to see what the agenda is for the big day! More details to come when we send out the formal wedding invitations.

Question

What do you recommend I do in Ecuador on the days other than the wedding?

Answer

We would love for you to join us on the Optional Welcome Tour on Monday, December 28th! See the RSVP tab above to learn more and RSVP! On this tour, we are going to visit tourist attractions around Quito that we would otherwise recommend that you visit on your own, such as "La Mitad del Mundo," ancient churches including la basilica, and more! If you plan to stay longer (either before or after the wedding), Elly and Daniel recommend that you consider visiting the Galapagos islands, Baños, Cuenca, the beach or the Amazons. There are so many places to see/visit in Ecuador, see our gallery tab for ideas. Elly and Daniel are working with tour companies that can help you with your activities around the wedding. They can coordinate travel and excursions. They are safe, reliable, and accept credit card. Ask us for more info and we will connect you with our wedding planner for more details.
