Fell in trucking Love

09/23/2020

**How They Met** It was late afternoon, and traffic on southbound I-75 just past Macon, Georgia, was crawling—courtesy of road work. Cars bunched together, inching forward as the left lane squeezed into the right. No one wanted to let an 18-wheeler cut in, least of all her. She sat behind the wheel of her rig, waiting for a break in traffic. Up ahead, a driver in another semi eased off the gas, leaving a gap just wide enough for her. She tried to move, but the car in front of her hadn’t budged. Impatient, he tapped the gas, closing the gap with a glare as he passed. As their eyes met, the frustration on his face softened into surprise—he hadn’t expected the driver to be a beautiful woman. Her annoyance flared. Traffic continued to crawl, and she fumed, muttering to herself. By the time she finally merged, she spotted him again, letting other cars in like a saint. As she rolled by, she shot him a look. He waved her in, but she waved him off with a dismissive hand, still irritated by their first encounter. When traffic finally loosened, she punched the gas, determined to leave him in the dust. But her thoughts lingered. **What was his problem? Let me over after giving me grief? Because I’m a woman?** She continued to stew over the encounter for the next hour, assuming she’d lost him for good. But then—there he was again. He spotted her truck in the middle lane, he caught up keeping pace on her right. When their eyes met this time, something shifted. Despite herself, she smirked. He gestured to his phone, mouthing “Call me.” She shook her head, laughing as she did. He asked again, hopeful. Another teasing shake of the head. Finally, with a grin that betrayed her amusement, she nodded yes. He fell back, waiting for her to pull over. When she did, he coolly approached her truck, walking along the highway chaos like it was nothing. They exchanged numbers, and before long, they were talking on the phone as they drove, their connection sparking as naturally as the open road ahead. By the time they reached the truck stop, he’d saved her a spot. Their 34-hour reset break would be spent together, and neither could have predicted it—but from that moment on, they were intertwined . He became her man, and she, his woman, with a story that began in the most unexpected of places: a traffic jam.
