Our Love Story

The First Meeting There weren’t exactly fireworks the first time Edie met Zach. There was more of a mild fizzle, an ambivalent shrug, a missed high five that leaves a person standing there feeling awkward. The fireworks would come later. Zach first locked eyes with Edie at a gathering in her family’s house when he was 8 years old. Edie was standing on the landing looking way too mature and cool to be bothered with a little kid like him. They waved to each other shyly before Edie ran upstairs to hang out with her friends and Zach retreated to the basement to play Bioshock with some of the other kids. For years he would think of her as the cute, older chick on the landing. It wasn’t until much later that he discovered exactly how much older than him she really was– 22 days. Over the decade that followed, their relationship was like a tattoo that had been outlined but not yet filled in. They lived on the periphery of each other’s lives, knowing of each other, but not really knowing each other, passing each other at gatherings and in stores without seeing each other. They were always missing that elusive high five. The First Meeting Re-boot Twelve years after that first uneventful meeting, came a monumental occasion so rare, it could only be fate. It was a day that they both decided to listen to their moms. Thinking the two 20 year olds might hit it off, the moms coerced them into planning a trip to Lava Hot Springs. Edie and Zach both agreed to go, but before the big weekend, they decided to sneak off and get to know each other first–they couldn’t let their moms completely take the reins. They connected at a coffee shop behind their moms’ backs and spent the next several hours talking. They bonded immediately over similar experiences, being raised as primarily only children, a mutual love of tattoos, and their equally bizarre senses of humor. Falling in Love at Lava The fireworks finally erupted at Lava Hot Springs. Edie and Zach spent the weekend tubing down the river, soaking in the springs, plotting tattoo concepts, and generally ditching their moms. They both realized something truly special was happening. They planned a date for the following weekend and from that moment on, they were inseparable. Growing Together Edie and Zach quickly moved in together and built a life filled with wild times, laughter, and a lot of video games. From Binding of Isaac and Diablo to The Sims and Animal Crossing, they’ve spent countless hours side by side, battling monsters, building villages, and intensely strategizing. Over the past several years they’ve leveled up in real life too– moving out on their own, learning to cook, traveling to California, Florida, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas, and teaching each other new tricks— Zach taught Edie sign language, and Edie taught Zach to dance. They’re mastering the art of life together. The Tattoo is Nearly Complete As Edie and Zach have grown together, so have their individual collections of body art. Both of them are intent on completing their tattoo visions with images that hold deep, personal meaning to them. For five years, Zach had admired the flower on Edie’s knee as she did the flower on his arm, never realizing the meaning behind them. One day, lit by curiosity they they decided to find out what kind of flowers they were admiring, and discovered they had both picked the same blossom— a peony— a flower that symbolizes prosperity, honor, and most importantly, love and romance. They didn’t need anymore signs. The High Five Finally Lands It started as an awkward wave and a series of missed high fives, but has grown into something so much deeper. Edie and Zach’s cradle robbing romance was years in the making and now they’re both ready to tie the knot. After 12 years of knowing of each other, and 7 years of truly knowing each other, they’re finally landing the high five–this time for life.
