1. Make sure to bring cash when going out. Some local stalls and eateries don't take credit card or ApplePay. 2. Taxes are always included in the listed prices. Some restaurants and hotels will charge a 10% service charge. Tipping only applies to valet parking, bellhops, and hotel room cleaning. 3. If you need a SIM card, buy your SIM card at the airport. 4. Get an EasyCard (悠遊卡) or iPass for getting around Taipei using public transportation. Trust Google Maps for directions. 5. It can rain a lot. Taipei is always humid. 6. Taiwan's laws are quite strict with drugs. General perception of drug use is very negative. Marijuana is illegal in Taiwan. 7. Some restaurants require reservations. Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) This is where most international flights arrive and depart. Take a cab, Uber, or the Taoyuan Metro to get to Taipei. Or, contact the hotel in advance to reserve airport pick-up/drop-off chauffeur service. Estimated Time to Taipei: ~1.5 hours. Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA) If you are flying from/to Tokyo Haneda Airport or Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, this is your arrival/departure airport. You will arrive closer to the city center. Take a cab, Uber, the MRT, or buses to the hotel. Or, contact the hotel in advance to reserve airport pick-up/drop-off chauffeur service. Public Transportation Getting around Taipei is easy with the Metro (MRT) and public buses. We suggest getting an EasyPass (悠遊卡) or a tourist Travel Pass. Google Maps is very helpful with telling you how to get from Point A to Point B. Ubers or Taxis Ubers and taxis in Taipei are generally reliable. All Uber drivers in Taipei are employed by taxi companies. For taxis, you may hail a taxi on the street, book a taxi by calling 55688 by cell phone and pressing “9,” or ask a nearby 7-11 to call a taxi for you.
