Shirely and Eddie first officially met at a game night at Eddie's house when they were in college. She immediately noticed him and he, in an attempt to be hospitable to everyone, didn't remember meeting her. This would come back to bite him when, at a teen leader retreat, he asked her out on their first date. He introduced himself and said, “nice to meet you” to which Shirley replied, “We’ve actually already met.” Nevertheless their date was scheduled. On their first date they went to eat ramen in Little Tokyo and then walked to Grand Central Market for dessert. At the end of the night Eddie was sure that there was something special about her. Shirley was a bit hesitant. They went on one more date a couple months later. This date was not as ideal for Eddie, considering that there wasn’t as much one on one time, but for Shirley, this date solidified that there was something special about Eddie. As time went on after the second date they slowly stopped talking consistently and stopped talking for about a year. It wouldn't be until the church teen camp next year (2019) that Eddie would know that Shirley would also be there and that he had an opportunity to rebuild the relationship. The first official day of camp, as campers are exiting the buses and Eddie is taking photos for facebook, Alex Quintanilla walks by then stops and asks Eddie about the dates he had with Shirley and what happened? Eddie explained that he would like to rekindle the relationship and what he should do and the advice was to ask her to coffee. He built up the confidence to ask her and once they met and talked, things were back to normal. Eddie would ask her on another date at the end of camp and they would begin consistently talking and texting. Eventually, Eddie decided it was time to ask her to be his girlfriend. On October 19, 2019 at Vista Hermosa Park he asked her to be his girlfriend. The time began to fly by, especially with the start of the pandemic, and soon Eddie Knew that he wanted Shirley to be his wife. He began to plan on how he would do it. He would trick her into thinking that they won a free photoshoot on instagram. This would give both of them a reason to dress nice without suspicion. This would also allow for the photographer to be there and capture the moment. With the instagram post made, surely enough, Shirley shared the post with Eddie for him to enter. Not surprisingly, he won the photoshoot and the date was set. Once the day came, they met at Descanso Gardens with the photographer and began the photoshoot. After about an hour of taking photos they arrived at the planned location that Eddie and the photographer had determined the week before. They had planned to do a back to back photo and once Shirley turned around Eddie got down on one knee and asked Shirley to turn around. With an open ring box in his hand he asked Shirley if she would marry him. She said, “Really?” In disbelief, but eventually she said yes.
