Yes, please let us know and we will make sure to accommodate you
There are a variety of travel options depending on whether you intend to fly directly to Belgrade or to explore somewhere else prior to the weekend. Direct flights are available from NYC and Chicago through Air Serbia (part of the Etihad rewards program). This is a very easy option if you're coming to Belgrade right from New York or Chicago. For those flying from Saint Louis, there is a flight to Frankfurt that connects to Belgrade on Lufthansa that is a great option. Easy connections typically exist through Frankfurt (Lufthansa), Zurich (Air Swiss), Paris (Air France), or Amsterdam (KLM), but feel free to explore whichever flights work best for your itinerary!
Serbia is not part of the EU and has its own currency - the dinar. The best and most affordable way to exchange dollars for dinars is to go to one of the many menjačnica (or currency exchange offices) around the city. It's incredibly common for Serbians to exchange Euros and Dollars for Dinars, so exchange offices are accessible and affordable. You'll see them on almost every block in the city!
Taxis are readily available at the Belgrade Airport. Prices are regulated through a centralized desk that will give you a voucher with the price of your journey - give this voucher to the first cabbie you see and he’ll take you to your destination for the quoted price. Cab drivers typically don’t accept cards. Also, most of the hotels arrange airport pickup. If you prefer for us to send you a car, please let us know and we will arrange that. If you are staying in Hilton, airport bus stops right across the street.
The city is very walkable and does have plenty of buses and trams. If you choose to take a taxi, we recommend you download the ride hailing apps Yandex Go or Pink Taxi while you’re here (Uber and Lyft don’t operate here). Of course you can also hail a cab in the city if you need, but this is helpful if you’re not so sure where you’re headed.
The primary language in Belgrade is...you guessed it, Serbian! Serbian has slavic roots and is typically written in the Cyrillic alphabet. While you'll hear mainly Serbian, most folks will have no problem speaking/understanding English. That being said, it doesn't hurt to know a few key phrases! - Hvala: Thank you - Molim: Please - Da/ Ne: Yes/ no - Izvini: Excuse me/ sorry. This is multi-purpose as in English and can be used if you bump into someone on the street or to catch a waiter's attention! (I'm told I use this way more frequently than any self-respecting Serbian) - Malo: a little - Mnogo: very, a lot - WC (pronounced vay tsay)/ toalet: Bathroom Greetings / Goodbyes: - Dobro Jutro: Good morning - used for morning greetings - Dobar Dan: Good day - used for greetings throughout the day - Zdravo: general greeting, more casual - Laku noć: Good night
Please let us know if you need a babysitter during celebrations and we will be happy to arrange a very reliable one.
Your presence is our gift. Instead of gifts, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity.
